Amarillo Trip

October 01, 2019

Lucas Varsity Football ready for Amarillo

Take 17 teenage boys, 5 trainers, and 3 coaches on a trip to Amarillo...and what do you get? A BLAST! Duh?!

We left with a burst of excitement following higher ground and packed up two vans.

My car was full of Seniors, Juniors, a few Sophomores, and two of our coaches. About 30 minutes in, we stopped at Buc-ee's and I made the mistake of getting a 28 oz. water and drinking it in 20 minutes. But it was from Norway, so why not?

Well... about 30 minutes later I started feeling an urge to use the bathroom! The next hour was me holding it in, for fear of telling my team that I already needed to stop to go to the bathroom again. When we finally did stop I could barely walk to the bathroom in my pain, but once I did, I felt free!

While many of the vans were jamming to more upbeat music, I was reading and listening to my own relaxing music! After about three hours, everyone was passed out, so of course I decided to take pictures for the paper!

Then we discovered that there were snacks in our van!! We busted them open and Goldfish and Vitamin Water became our lifesavers!

At last we arrived at the hotel, got settled in our rooms, and then met up in a community room which was set up for an X-Box Madden tournament! It. Was. Legendary. The next morning we got up, ate breakfast, and headed to our game!

Upon arriving to the field, dressed and ready to play, the Lucas Warriors got pumped up in their locker room. The energy could be felt as kickoff was approaching, and the warriors got the ball to start the game. They immediately drove down the field and scored, then stifled the San Jacinto offense, and then scored once again.

The game was a back and forth scoring affair, with the Warriors falling slightly behind in the second and third quarters. However, new life was provided in the fourth quarter due to a kick return touchdown. The Warriors were back in it! Even though the Warriors put forth their best effort of the year, they still fell short and took the L, 67-52.
Game Recap By: Andrew Mares [12]

After our game, we went on a trip to Chick-Fil-A. I mean who doesn’t love Jesus chicken? :)

Then we loaded up the vans and slept like babies!

About two hours later we awoke to brakes slamming right before our next stop, and of course loved that! There was also a Sonic stop where Andrew Mares [12] enjoyed a Sonic Sunrise!

Once the sun went down we broke out some of our favorite pop bops! From “I Want It That Way” to “Party in the USA”!

When we finally arrived home around 10:15 p.m. we were all exhausted!

Throughout this trip though, our team grew closer as brothers and I’m super thankful for every one of them and the awesome dudes that God has made them to be! I wouldn’t have traded those 36 crazy hours for anything!
