Closed Campus (p. 58 – 59)

Effective fall of 2007 LCA will operate under a closed campus policy.

1.       Students may arrive and leave according to their unique class schedule. When a student deviates from his set schedule in any way, they must check in or out at the school office in order to leave campus, arrive late, or return. Deviation from set schedule must have parent permission in order to avoid disciplinary action for truancy.

2.       Students are to be under supervision by being physically present in the class, study hall, or extra-curricular activity for which they are registered. Being present on campus but not in the class or study hall for which he or she is registered, present on campus at a time when the student does not have a scheduled class or study hall, or off-campus during enrolled class without express permission will result in a disciplinary action for truancy.

3.       Students should not arrive on campus prior to fifteen minutes before their first scheduled class unless they have enrolled in and attend Higher Ground (attendance will be taken).

4.       Students who do not have classes or a study hall must leave the LCA campus within 15 minutes of the end of their last class. Students who have not been picked up by their parent or carpool will be asked to wait in the office if this happens on a continual basis the student may be placed in a study hall as a drop in student at the parent’s expense.

5.       Parents are responsible for the method in which their student arrives and leaves campus.

6.       Students must remain on campus during the lunch period.

7.      It is considered a discourtesy to the teacher and a disruptive influence to the learning environment for a student to leave a class or study hall in session before that class has been dismissed. Therefore, unless prior arrangements have been made through the office, leaving a class early will be considered a breach of good conduct and treated as a discipline issue.

Student Drivers (p. 59)

Students who have a valid driver’s license may drive to school and park in the LCA designated student parking spaces upon completion and approval of an LCA student driver parking permit application. A $5.00 parking permit identification tag will be issued and must be visibly displayed while parked on campus.  Student drivers will be expected to:

·         Adhere to the school’s Closed Campus Policy

·         Not exceed a speed limit of 5 MPH in and out of the parking lot

·         Not loiter in the parking lot or vehicles

·         Park only in the areas designated as LCA student parking

Failure to adhere to these policies could result in financial penalties and/or loss of these privileges.

Student Discipline Policy (p. 67)

To succeed, a student must feel he is loved and understand the boundaries of behavior and the proper direction in which to head to avoid repeated wrong decisions.  The school is to give its students support and direction while also working in harmony with the home. The primary goal of the LCA staff will be to practice "preventative" discipline through the use of excellent character curriculum and good training techniques.  As the need arises, the school will also employ reproof, rebuke, and correction in order to encourage cooperation among the student body. As a parent-based school, LCA believes that the school staff is primarily responsible to utilize mild forms of reproof, rebuke, and correction for the purpose of sound classroom management.  For correction of prominent negative habits and attitudes, detentions, work duty, extra assignments, and like disciplines may be imposed for the purpose of positive training.

Rules and regulations are kept to a minimum, but the entire LCA community realizes that the freedom experienced is not to be interpreted as license and, therefore, that any undesirable or offensive behavior by a student enrolled in the school will not be tolerated.

Guidelines

In most cases, a distinction will be made between elementary and secondary students in specific policies governing disciplinary procedures, as it is expected that secondary students possess a greater degree of self control and common sense.

1.       First incident observed by Teacher.

1. Teacher counsels student, giving him the opportunity to correct his own behavior (see below);

2. Teacher records incident AND counseling results on RenWeb;

3. Teacher sends a copy of RenWeb report to parents and Dean of Family Education.

2.       Second incident

1.       Teacher counsels/corrects student, giving him another opportunity to correct his own behavior (see below);

2.       Teacher calls student’s parents to discuss the incident;

3.       Teacher records on RenWeb the phone call and counseling steps;

4.       Teacher sends copies to parents and Dean of Family Education, indicating this is a second infraction. Also at this time the parent will be sent a reminder of the consequences for the third infraction.

3.       Third incident.

1.       Teacher emails Dean of Family Education who records on RenWeb;

2.       Dean of Family Education assigns student detention for one week during 8:00 am Study Hall (M,W,F) or  two consecutive weeks during lunch.

3.       Dean counsels student also at this time. (Students who represent the school in Fine Arts, Athletics, Praise Band and the like who receive detentions may be suspended from their extra curricular activity for that week.)

4. Fourth incident.

1.       Family meeting with parents, child, Dean of Family Education and Chief Administrator of the school to co-partner to find an effective solution.
